True Life Trio:  Vocals, Accordion, and Strings

at the Polish Club in the Mission District

True Life Trio, Vocals, Accordion, Strings in the Mission

True Life Trio’s singing exudes untamed joy.  They met in Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble and soon found their affinity extended beyond Balkan music to the far reaches of Europe and America.  Their music is an elixir of ancient traditional songs made new, tasty choral arrangements and inspired original compositions.  They have been enchanting audiences in their San Francisco Bay Area home and all across the West for more than a decade with their finely-honed, heart-centered, "concert hall meets front porch" performances.
True Life Trio has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Real Vocal String Quartet, Black Sea Hotel, Honey Whiskey Trio, Gari Hegedus, Faisal Zedan, Edessa, Dunava, Duo Kel-Mo, Chimera, Aurora Chorus, Ghost Note Ensemble and Nevenka Folk Ensemble with Tzvetanka Varimezova. They performed for SheSings Vocal Festival and at Berkeley’s Freight & Salvage and were featured artists with the California Revels.

Ukrainian Film Night/Fundraiser

Join us on November 18th for our 6th Ukrainian Film Night Fundraiser at The Polish Club in San Francisco!
5:00 pm - doors open:  Enjoy food/drinks/art/socialize
6:00 pm - film begins

We will be screening a documentary film by Artyom Litvinenko Against All Odds.  In this movie the first month of the Russian Invasion is discussed in detail by current and former defense ministers Reznikov and Zahorodniuk, as well as American general Ben Hodges, former USA ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor Jr., and the Polish Military Representative to NATO and the EU Military Committee general Andrzej Fałkowski.  Defenders of Kyiv, Gostomel, Irpin and Moshchun, share their experience and recollection of the historically significant events that took place during the first days of the invasion.  We recommend a donation of $15-20 for admission (cash/Venmo/PayPal; no credit cards please).

Donations will be split between Волонтерський Рух (Volunteer Movement) and Army SOS -- both Ukrainian-based organizations established in 2014.  Волонтерський Рух (Volunteer Movement) provides tactical medical equipment (e.g., tourniquets, chest seals, etc.) to Ukrainian defenders and civilians.  Army SOS helps supply Ukrainian defenders with modern tools and equipment to counter the invasion. The Polish Club has graciously donated the space for our event and is collaborating with us. They will be selling Polish food and beverages (tea, soda, beer and more) with proceeds going toward the upkeep of the Polish Club.

POLISH CLUB HAPPY HOUR

Join us!  All are welcome!

Join us on November 17 to celebrate Polish Independence Day and learn about how the pre-independence history still affects Poland today (more below)!

We will have Polish food, drinks and lots of fun.  Bring your friends and family!

https://www.facebook.com/kartografiaekstremalna?mibextid=ZbWKwL

PHANTOM BORDERS IN POLAND

Polish Independence Day is celebrated on November 11 as on that day in 1918, Poland regained independence after 123 years of being divided between Prussia, Russia and Austro-Hungary.

But even though it was so long ago, you can still see the impact of the imperial borders on the maps (and therefore, the society) of Poland.  Joining us will be Szymon Pifczyk of the popular Polish map blog Kartografia ekstremalna who will show us how the legacy of the partitioners still impacts Poland today.

Performance by the Hybrydy Theater

Tickets:  $30

"THESE YEARS WON'T BE GIVEN BACK"

A concert of songs by the masters of Polish song: Agnieszka Osiecka, Wojciech Młynarski, graduates of the University of Warsaw and co-creators of the Hybrydy Theatre, whose lyrics are hummed and listened to by multiple generations of Poles.

You will hear the most beautiful hits in new energetic arrangements, and they will be interspersed with funny literary cabaret sketches from pre-war and post-war Poland. The program will also include retro hits by recognized Polish composers, in a cheerful, lively mood, as well as more lyrical and nostalgic pieces.

It will be both wistful memories and a charming evening of high-quality entertainment.
